Introducing Hatsune Miku the Real Holographic Pop Star

ROOM 704/706 - SciFi/Fantasy TV/Film

Sunday June 2, 2019 - 3:30 pm to 4:20 pm

Hatsune Miku - the singing, dancing, hologram who is collectively-created by hundreds of thousands of people online - is a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. With over 250 thousand songs featuring her voice, millions of fan-art variations, and international concert tours (including opening for Lady Gaga and a performance on Late Night with David Letterman), Miku is an example of participatory fan-created media, who functions less like a pop star… and more like Wikipedia. For this panel, Associate Professor Tara Knight from CU Boulder will provide an introductory guide for both the audience, as well as her two “I Want You to Watch This” podcast co-hosts, through the music, videos, remixes, and more in this new Pop Culture phenomenon. Please note: ideally, we would audio record this panel to be released on our podcast to serve a larger audience. Knight has an extensive online english-language fan networks who may be interested in this presentation.
