ED132 - World Building for RPGs

ROOM 708/710 - Gaming/Tech

Sunday June 2, 2019 - 10:30 am to 11:20 am

Role-playing games can be a lot of fun even if your group is just crawling dungeons, but what if you want to sell your gains? Is there a local village? Who lives there? What culture are they part of? Is this the same as your characters? What are the laws in this local village? Are there any roaming monsters around this local village and, if so, what are they like? Do you have a villain or just adventures in old ruins? This presentation will discuss small-to-large, holistic, and event-based world building techniques. We are focusing on role-playing games, but these same techniques will work for writers of stories as well. We hope to lead gamers to find greater depth in their gaming worlds and, with that greater enjoyment in their games.
