ED22 - Pop Culture in History Museums: Connecting with Nostalgia

DPCCP 6 Coast City (General)

Friday May 31, 2019 - 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm

Museums offer a unique opportunity for the use of pop culture in educational programming. From creating blueprints for spacecraft to traveling The Oregon Trail ®️ in a real life immersive experience or taking a Steampunk train ride and capturing Pokémon, museums can take students to new worlds. This panel will cover why pop culture education is important in museums, how museums use it differently than classrooms, and how these programs can support classroom teachers. Our 5 panelists will show examples of their own programming and discuss how pop culture has benefited and impacted their participants and their organization.
