COMICS, CENSORSHIP, AND THE COMICS CODE AUTHORITY

PANEL ROOM E24 B

Friday May 31, 2019 - 7:15 pm to 8:05 pm

Learn about the 'comics scare' of the 1950's when comic books came closer than any other medium to having the federal government regulate their content.

We will discuss the role Frederic Wertham's Seduction of the Innocent played in fanning the flames of anti-comic hysteria, how the Comics Code Authority was established to avoid governmental regulation, as well as it's decline and eventual collapse. We will also discuss continuing issues of censorship faced by comics today.
