ED99 - The Underground ANSi Art Scene: When Hackers and Graffiti Artists Met

ROOM 705 - Education

Sunday June 2, 2019 - 10:30 am to 11:20 am

The pre-Internet 1990s gave rise to the unique art medium of ansi art. Artists working with hacker groups and underground communications systems produced stunning art using only sixteen colors and simple block characters. Drawing on inspiration from comic book and graffiti artists ansi artists pushed the boundaries of graphics technology. Join members of Christian Vozar of Blocktronics as I discuss the history of when hackers and artists created an entirely new medium of art. We'll go over how participants can continue creating this amazing art jointly with a collaborative drawing server hosted. It's tradition in the ansi art scene to have a drawing contest with prizes so we'll have the first Denver Pop Culture Con ansi art contest with prizes!
