ED87 - Teens and LGBTQIA+ Representation in Pop Culture: A Discussion by Teens

ROOM 711 - Education

Saturday June 1, 2019 - 2:00 pm to 2:50 pm

This panel will discuss the importance of representation and how LGBT+ representation helps and influences the general public's view on acceptance, while giving teens support and connections. The panel will include examples of representation of different aspects of the community in different forms of pop culture media. We will have specific examples of characters from comic books, like America Chavez, as well as characters from novels, anime and manga, and TV shows. We will cover multiple LGBT+ identities and go into detail of how they are represented and how that representation impacts teen viewers. There will also be a chance for audience members to share their own experiences with how representation has affected them.
