We so often think of storytelling in prose that we forget some of the greatest tales were told in epic and lyrical styles. What are some advantages and disadvantages of telling stories this way? Would Poe’s “The Bells” or Homer’s Odyssey have been more powerful in prose? Will today’s readers accept stories written in poetic form?
