The Business of Art: How Local Artists Are Reimagining Entrepreneurship

Fresh Arts, a Houston-based nonprofit that champions local artists and creative entrepreneurs to succeed in the business of art, will present an artist-led conversation on arts and entrepreneurship. Discussion points will include sustainable income streams, the creative process and local resources for artists. The panel will feature four local artists who maintain a creative entrepreneur practice spanning different forms of public engagement in the arts. Panelists will include: David Maldonado, a Houston-based multidisciplinary artist and musician, whose medium has varied from canvases and large-scale murals to cleats worn by professional athletes. As a Hispanic artist, he believes there is an importance in reflecting his culture, tradition and good storytelling through the forms of art. Outspoken Bean, an award-winning spoken word poet and founder of Plus Fest, an innovative, one-day festival that provides a platform for nationally renowned spoken-word artists and poets to fuse their work alongside and in collaboration with local visual artists, videographers, DJ’s, musicians plus more.
