User Interface Design: Adapting to VR

While user interface (UI) design can be fairly straight forward, virtual reality introduces a whole new set of rules. I’ve seen many developers fail to create intuitive designs for 3D space, so I want to help inform new developers of the issues I’ve come across and show them how to get started with their own designs. The majority of us know how to make a wireframe for an application, but how does it translate to VR? Whether a menu is successful or not can depend on the type of menu and if it’s compatible with the controls available to the user. I aim to discuss the possibilities and limitations of user interfaces, discussing comfortable viewing distances, reasonable physiological movement, and effectively using the available space.
