Bob's Burgers: Prevalent Feminism and Positive Masculinity

1st Floor - Gold Stage

Saturday July 17, 2021 - 10:30 am to 11:30 am

Bob's Burgers is more than just a funny, animated sitcom. The show illuminates well-written, well-developed characters, and shakes off the normal 'parent/child' relationships—especially in Bob's interaction with his daughters. It tackles everything from crushes to real relationships, to fears and hopes, and love affairs with ghosts. This panel will discuss how well Bob's Burgers fares in the Bechdel test, as well as how the characters in the show are actually champions of feminism and positive masculinity, among other things. The panel will be a discussion/open interaction. Topics include: Bob's feelings about how obsessed Tina is about boys—albeit this discomfort is more general—and not due to her being a girl needing to be 'protected.' Bob's relationship with his only son, which is less about being a 'man' and more about him being true to himself, even when Bob doesn't know what that is exactly.
