IMPOSTER SYNDROME IN THE NERD COMMUNITY

COSPLAY PANEL ROOM (302A)

Friday July 30, 2021 - 7:30 pm to 8:20 pm

Come join us as we discuss what is Imposter Syndrome, how it affects us, and how to overcome it.

When you’re in the nerd community there can sometimes be a lot of pressure to post and interact on social media. You often want to share your work, cosplays, opinions on nerd-related topics, and interact with other nerds. However, sometimes that pressure causes us to feel like we have to take on a certain persona or personality. This may cause us to pretend to be someone we’re not or act in a way that people like that is not genuine to our true self. When that happens you may doubt your skills, talents or accomplishments, and have a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud." This is called Imposter Syndrome. As a licensed therapist and someone who struggles with this at times I think this is an important topic to address as many people struggle with it. Come join us as we discuss what is Imposter Syndrome, how it affects us, and how to overcome it.
