Travel and Imagination: How Books and Other Creative Ideas Blossom During Travel

Workshop Room (3rd Floor, #330)

Sunday July 17, 2022 - 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Join us in a discussion about imagination. St. Augustine said, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." However, through television, movies, and the internet, armchair-travelers can stay at home and still experience much of the world. Yet, there is nothing like being in a foreign county to shake up our thinking about what is usual and "normal." Encounters with other countries and cultures open up spaces in our minds that we didn't even know existed. New smells, new sights, new ways of thinking. They give us hints about how the world could be different, about how we could be different. Those insights then inform our creativity, leading artists of all genres to develop new projects or to improve projects already underway, including new sensory experiences into both written and graphic art.
