Insects in Anime: Bugs make anime BETTER

Everon Elementals (CTCC MR 21)

Saturday July 16, 2022 - 9:45 am to 10:45 am

A media review of how insects are portrayed in Japanese media such as Anime and Tokusatsu, but also looking at the Shinto roots of the cultural entomology of modern day Japan. This will be from a hobbyist perspective, with research to guide a discussion for all ages. I will give examples of insects in anime, examples "mono no aware" which characterizes beauty as the empathy towards all things and defines true beauty as being temporary, and COOL BUG FACTS. For interaction, I would like to bring insect taxidermy, bug themed giveaways (insect cards or toys), and even live insect displays such as Mantids.
