Role-playing games such as DnD and Pathfinder have been at the center of recent controversies over the representation of evil monsters in their games. Some advocates worry that such depictions may foster real-life racism or that people of color may be offended by these depictions. However, recent research has contradicted this, suggesting there's no relationship between playing these games and real-life racism, nor are most people of color offended by evil orcs. Culture wars over such issues are likely to increase polarization of the gaming community and, instead, our panel looks for ways for traditionalists and progressives to resolve their differences through compromise as role-playing games continue to evolve.
