Cherry blossoms hold elevated status in Japan, being considered a symbol of life, death, and renewal. Cherry blossoms are also a symbol of the arrival of Spring and the fleeting nature of life. This panel examines the meaning and symbolism of cherry blossoms in Japanese culture and discusses cultural practices associated with cherry blossoms including hanami (flower viewing) and yozakura (Sakura viewing at night). The panel invites participants to engage in a cultural discussion of cherry blossoms and examine their meaning from several points of view including culture, religion, anime, and more. Includes a trivia contest at the end; winners go home with Japanese cherry blossom goodies!
