Tomahawk

Laughlin 2

Friday July 21, 2023 - 9:00 am to 10:30 am

Derived from the Algonquin word “tamahaak/tamahaaken/otamahaak”, the metal headed tomahawk of the 18th century is the perfect example of cultural migration and the blending of weapons and fighting concepts of early European settlers and indigenous Native Americans. This class will explore the history and development of the tomahawk from the stone headed and wooden warclubs to the metal headed, often elaborately decorated designs of the 18th century. It’s use as an amazingly effective close quarter weapon will be thoroughly examined through drills and partnered training.
