The Comedy of Jerks: Seinfeld and Beyond

Goliath (CTCC MR-14)

Saturday July 8, 2017 - 7:45 pm to 8:45 pm

A comedy panel where we take an in depth look at the pop culture phenomenon that is Seinfeld- its cultural impact (Festivus, double dipping), and more importantly, the impact on comedy. We will discuss how Seinfeld broke the mold for sitcoms in both structure and character, and why it endures today. We will also discuss the rise of comedies where the protagonists are unsympathetic, and even downright awful people (It’s Always Sunny, Veep), and what makes shows like that watchable and fun, and opposed to cruel. There will also be a trivia contest, prizes, yada yada yada. Shorter description: A panel about nothing- the show about nothing and how it changed everything. Join three comedy nerds as they discuss Seinfeld’s impact on culture and comedy, and why it’s so much fun to laugh at awful people. There will also be a trivia contest, prizes, yada yada yada.
