Traditional Japanese Biken Jutsu (Katana) - Basics and Partner Work

Laughlin 2

Saturday July 27, 2024 - 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm

This will be a similar offering to the my class of 2023 in that we will explore a few basic concepts of footwork and a few cuts with the Katana. Using these basic concepts we will build through partner work exercises applying the concepts of Sabaki (evasion), Maai (timing), Kukan (distance) and Suki (openings). The techniques will be different than in 2023, however the class will build in the same manner, from a simple singular move to a chain of attacks and responses on the part of both the Tori (the person applying the winning technique) and Uke (the person receiving of the winning technique).
