Comics as Literature

Panel Room

Saturday April 8, 2017 - 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm

We are happy to welcome Karl Meiner, Peter Starr and Brian Mosher from Chemeketa as we dive into "Comics as Literature". "Peter received his BA in English and American Studies from Hobart College and his MFA in Creative Writing from Oregon State University. He currently teaches at Chemeketa Community College. He has been working comics into his curriculum for fifteen years and studying their use in the classroom and beyond for virtually his entire life. His son's first word was Batman." Brian has taught comics and writing at Chemeketa since he finished Grad school at OSU, where they let him write a masters thesis on comics pedagogy and sent him on a free trip to San Diego Comic Con. He didn't like it. Brian's also presented at academic conferences on literature, sneaking comics into the panels whenever an opportunity arose. "Karl Meiner earned his MA in English Literature from Portland State and his MAT in teaching writing from Lewis and Clark College. He has been teaching writing for nearly a decade at Chemeketa, and he has been an unabashed nerd for nearly four decades."
