Nowadays it’s no secret that most art is done digitally, with a gamut of styles from digital paints, vector art, and CG renders. But one old style that’s making a comeback is pixel art, drawings like you’d see in classic NES games or modern hits like Undertale, Minecraft, and Shovel Knight. And would you believe there’s a passionate community dedicated to the style, using the limitations of the form to make stunning, iconic art. If you’re curious what the appeal is, where you can find more of it, or how it’s made, then come on by! The second half of the talk will be a drawing demo where we’ll go over how to make your own sprites of the kind you’d see in Mario, Megaman, or Undertale, with tips on how to get the best results.
