Cristina “Trinity” Vélez-Justo (they/she) is a public speaker and educator, and an award-winning composer for media through their business ReelScoring, LLC. Through their BA in Music Composition and MFA in Film Music Composition, Trinity studied with game composers for Red Dead Redemption, RAGE, the Dead Space Series, Tera, and TOME. They relocated to Charlotte, NC, from Los Angeles in 2018 after finishing the Television Academy Foundation Internship in Music and working as an assistant to accomplished film and television composers who score(d) Star Trek Discovery, The Possession, Reelform’s Siren, and the Kit-Kat jingle. Through conferences, conventions, festivals, and academic institutions, Trinity educates media-makers on the psychology and significance of music in media and how to successfully work with a composer.
Trinity also speaks internationally about networking in a disconnected world, and diversity and inclusion in the industry and creative classroom. They are an avid educator in cultivating strong and healthy professional relationships leading workshops in networking and career development for creatives. Trinity is currently pursuing their Ph.D. in Music Theory at The Ohio State University, incorporating media and popular music studies, sociology, psychology, and cultural studies in their research. Their research focuses on how media music influences our perceptions and representations of marginalized (specifically Black and Brown) groups. To help both well- and under-represented students create a more equitable future in the entertainment and music industries, Trinity plans to implement their research into developing more diverse and inclusive approaches in teaching music for media.
