This class will cover reconstructing techniques using Japanese sources and show some examples from Yagyu Munenori’s Heihō Kadensho. We will also discuss how using different types of trainers (bokken, shinai, sparring steel) changes the dynamic of certain techniques as we work through a few basic techniques. Though Yagyu’s Heihō Kadensho was written during the peaceful Edo period, Yagyu fought during the Sengoku Jidai (Warring state period). Please note that this class focuses on reconstruction using historical sources as opposed to modern traditional techniques, and we will discuss some of the differences between these.
