ConnectiCon XXI will be held the weekend of July 18-21, 2024

Application Deadline is June 15, 2024, all applications received after that date will be reviewed based on our staffing needs.

If you are interested in applying for a Management or Executive Staff position please have your application in no later than January 31, 2024

**NO applications will be held for review for the next year’s event. ALL Staff will be required to re-apply for their position yearly.

Make sure to answer all questions in the Application -- DO NOT LEAVE ANY QUESTIONS BLANK (or the application will not be accepted by the system)

Staff will have access to the member room block upon purchase of their membership

All staff positions of ConnectiCon are Compensated Staff positions. They consist of people who believe in the community and the success of the organization.

Previous convention experience is not required to join our staff, however it is helpful to have experience or knowledge in any of these areas.

Please read all the information about our positions, policies, and benefits before submitting your application. By joining Staff, you agree to abide by these rules and policies or else face consequences determined by Executive Staff.

 

Responsibilities of a staff member may include, but are not limited to:

• Planning and running events (during the year and/or during the convention)

• Set-up and clean-up of events

• Supervising team/department members

• Promoting events

• Enforcing the rules of the convention

• Troubleshooting challenges and emergency situations

• Communicating with other staff members/departments, convention center staff, guests and industry professionals, and members via phone, e-mail, forums, and in person

What are the requirements of becoming Staff?

You must purchase an all weekend membership badge to the current event prior to your application being processed - this membership will be refunded in full  after it has been verified that you have completed the hours of the Tier that you have committed to working (6-24 hours)

- You must be at least 18 years of age and able to perform your position’s duties such as walking/standing up to 6 hours or more per day and/or lifting/moving 20-50 lbs. or more without injuring yourself.

- You will need to Join the ConnectiCon Slack group as it is our primary way to communicate, you will be sent a link if you are accepted on to staff for this year.

- You must present yourself professionally at all times during events and convention-related instances. This includes, but is not limited to, following Staff Rules and procedures, and wearing your Staff shirt and badge while on duty (and taking them off when you are not on duty/participating in events.)

 

WORKING ON-SITE AT THE CONVENTION IS REQUIRED OF ALL STAFF AND IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.

 

What are the benefits of becoming a staff member?

 

First, the boring stuff:

In addition to supporting an event that you enjoy; it can be a very fun and rewarding experience. Working as staff for a convention is a learning experience; it gives you a whole new perspective on the activities you enjoy, and you may learn valuable skills. You can learn about conventions, how they run, behind-the-scenes information about the various industries you are interested in, etc. You can add your volunteer work to a resume or application, including any staff titles you have earned. In addition, you can build a diverse network of friends, colleagues, and industry professionals.

 

Now for the fun stuff:

- Per Diem for one 6-hour shift per day from $85.00 to $106.25 a day depending on the number of days worked  (Your per diem will be mailed out to the address on your application within 3 weeks of the close of the convention) 

- Free Staff T-Shirt(s)

- Managers will receive a Management Polo

- Membership Reimbursement 


Tier System Descriptions:

 

One Day (6 hours) - compensation rate ~$17.5/hr

Compensation as follows:


Badge Reimbursement upon completion of 6 hours work (up to $90 plus fees)

Souvenir Staff Tee Shirt (valued at $20)


Two Days (12 hours, 6 hours per day) - compensation rate ~$17.91/hr

Compensation as follows:


Badge Reimbursement upon completion of 6 hours work (up to $90 plus fees)

Souvenir Staff Tee Shirt (valued at $20)

Per Diem $85.00 paid upon completion of 12 hours work (max $170)


Three Days (18 hours, 6 hours per day) - compensation rate ~$19.44/hr

Compensation as follows:


Badge Reimbursement upon completion of 6 hours work (up to $90 plus fees)

Two Souvenir Staff Tee Shirts (valued at $20 each, total value $40)

Managers will receive two Manager Polo Shirts (valued at $30 each, total value $60)

Per Diem $91.67 paid upon completion of 18 hours worked (max $275)


Four Days (24 hours, 6 hours per day) - compensation rate ~$21.04/hour

Compensation as follows:


Badge Reimbursement upon completion of 6 hours work (up to $90 plus fees)

Two Souvenir Staff Tee Shirts (valued at $20 each, total value $40) OR Two Souvenir Manager Polo Shirts (valued at $30 each, total value $60)

Per Diem $106.25 paid upon completion of 24 hours worked (max $425)


**You are required to work minimum 6-hours per day i.e. One 6 hour shift per day or two 3 hour shifts per day


Volunteer Terms and Conditions and Release

By applying to be staff you agree to the all of the terms and conditions laid out in the application

Rules include but are not limited to:

  • Staff must be on time for all shifts; any absences must communicated with department managers ahead of time
  • Staff may not physically touch any attendees, guests of honor, or other staff members 
  • Staff may not ask for discounts not expressly provided to them. 
  • Staff may not post on social media as a representative of the convention unless designated to do so by ConnectiCon executive staff
  • Staff may not abuse any privilege's afforded to them as staff 

 

All Staff are subject to the rules and policies of the Convention, the Convention Center, as well as any laws in the state of Connecticut. As a Staff Member, you are considered a public face of the organization and will be expected to conduct yourselves in a professional manner. The rules in this section apply at all times; during events/meetings and outside of the context of the convention (online, other conventions, etc.) This is to protect the convention, its staff, affiliates, and its members from harm and legal ramifications.
